PPCT Management Systems, Inc. / Human Factor Science (PPCT/HFS) has developed a Firearms Threat Pattern Recognition (TPR) program.  The goal of this course is to enhance the speed of an officer recognition and response time by teaching the micro-movement threat indicators.  The course focuses on biology-based response subsequent to time, distance and cover in life and death encounters with armed assailants.  This course was designed from a TPR study that took 5 years to complete.  The study has shown that assailant can move their weapon from the side of the leg and fire at a target in .37 second.  Research has shown that officers are about .5 seconds behind the reality of what they encounter.  Action is faster than reaction.  An officer cannot outdraw the assailant.  The study showed that 70% of officers killed in the line of duty are 10 feet or closer to the assailant.  In 57% of the cases, the officer did not have time to draw their weapon.  The study further showed by the officer making a simple movement, gives them time to evade, assess and engage the threat successfully.  In making this simple and effective movement, the assailant has to re-think and re-redirect their assault causing them to miss vital areas of the officer’s body.

The Firearms TPR study showed during a startled response firearms attack, all 58 officers who participated were wounded, with the officer accuracy rate of returning fire at 29.7%.  After attending the Firearms TPR course, the officer’s first exposure to a startled response attack reduced the number of officers wounded to 31 out of 58, with an officer accuracy rate of 78.7%.  After the third exposure the number of officers wounded was down to 1 out of the 58, with an officer returning fire accuracy of 93.8%.

This course is to supplement and enhance existing department firearms programs.   This course is not designed to replace agencies existing firearms courses.  This course does not advocate a specific firearms shooting stance system.  There will no live fire in this program.

Course Objectives:
1.        Identify the six assailant draws most often used during a fatal firefight.
2.        Identify the lethal force micro-movement cues associated with each assailant lethal    force draws.
3.        Identify the visual pathways needed to enhance threat identification and precision
engagement.
4.        Identify the limitations of the visual pathways at six and ten feet.
5.        Identify a simple tactical solution that will enhance an officer’s ability to evade,                 verify the nature of the threat and engage with precision.
6.        Identify a simple tactical solution designed to enhance an assailant to miss the     target.
7.        The course will address the micro-nuances of targeting vectors, the wobble effect and the challenges of precision using a simple system of economic lasers that can be implemented during the training.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED FOR THE COURSE:
1.        NO AMMUNITION IN THE CLASSROOM
2.        Simmunition weapon or airsoft weapon  NO AMMUNITION
3.        Duty weapon if no other training weapon available
4.        Smart phone with video capabilities or video camera
